246th Independence Day celebration
“Last night we celebrated the 246th birthday of the United States, but we also celebrated our community and all that we will build as strong friends and partners.
I know that there is nothing that Aotearoa New Zealand and the United States cannot accomplish together. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the arrival of U.S. Marines on Aotearoa’s shores during WWII.
They left their homes, many for the first time, but found manakitanga and the enduring friendship of an entire nation.
A friendship that both nations continue to have to this day.” – U.S. Ambassador Udall.
