U.S. and Oceania Summit: Internationalization Across the Pacific in 2023 and Beyond

The U.S. Embassy New Zealand in partnership with ISEP Study Abroad, USA Study Abroad, and U.S. Missions in Australia and Fiji proudly hosted the U.S. & Oceania Summit: Internationalization Across the Pacific in 2023 and Beyond on October 26, 2022. The summit crystalized two years of expert webinars on international education topics central to the region. The in-person event reconnected government officials and international educators from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, the United States, and Canada at the University of Auckland. Expert panelists challenged educators, businesspeople, and students to address issues important to Oceania and the United States.

“As a proud Pacific partner, we firmly believe in providing access and opportunity for students and scholars across this region to exchange ideas, collaborate on research, and to develop deeper understanding of the differences in our cultures, as well as the commonalities of our shared mission to address global challenges,” said Heidi Manley, Branch Chief of USA Study Abroad.

Woven together by culture, education, business, and research, dialogues at the Summit offered solutions to how individuals, higher education institutions, and organizations across the Pacific can leverage strategic, inclusive, and sustainable exchange of people and ideas to address climate change and enable equity and access in exchange programs, including the ‘indigenization’ of exchange program models, future modes of student mobility, and the intersection of business and education in the region. Above all, the Summit connected individuals and institutions that can support trans-Pacific exchanges of students and scholars.

Recordings of panel sessions will be available on the conference webpage, https://www.isepstudyabroad.org/pacific-summit-2023.
