U.S. Consul General Sarah Nelson,

Sarah Nelson is the Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Auckland, New Zealand. Before arriving in Auckland in July 2021, she attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Sarah has also served as Deputy Chief of Mission in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. She was also Consular Chief in Wuhan, China, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and Kolkata, India. Sarah’s other tours include Toronto, Canada, Amman, Jordan, and Beijing, China. While serving in Washington Sarah was detailed to the Department of Homeland Security’s office of Fraud Detection and National Security, serving as the Consular Affairs representative working on information sharing initiatives.

Sarah has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and she holds a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. She speaks Mandarin, Spanish, and German and looks forward to learning te reo Māori. Sarah is married with no children and enjoys all forms of water sports.
