U.S. Naval Attachè, CDR Shane Fisher visits Aitutaki for the Anzac ceremony

The U.S. Naval Attachè, CDR Shane Fisher, traveled to Rarotonga and Aitutaki, Cook Islands on 25th April to speak at the Anzac ceremony to commemorate and to honor our military brethren from Australia and New Zealand who valiantly fought and sacrificed their lives in service to their nation.

The United States military built an airstrip on Aitutaki in 1942 as a strategic link between Hawaii and the Western Pacific and CDR Fisher spoke about the support the American’s received by the people of Aitutaki during the war.

CDR Fisher met with the council members, island chiefs, and the mayor who stated that the visit “re-invigorated the relationship between the two countries” and look to continue the momentum and hold future discussions on how to work together to maintain stability and security for a free and open Indo-Pacific.
